The N-Convention Centre in Hyderabad, owned by actor Akkineni Nagarjuna, has been partially demolished by the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Monitoring and Protection (HYDRA) authorities. The action was taken due to allegations that the convention center was built illegally on land that encroached upon the Full Tank Level (FTL) area and buffer zone of Thammidikunta Lake in the Madhapur area.
The convention center, a popular venue for events like weddings and corporate gatherings, had long been under scrutiny. Official records indicate that the center encroached on approximately 1.12 acres of the FTL area and an additional 2 acres within the buffer zone, prompting the demolition.
Nagarjuna has strongly condemned the demolition, calling it unlawful and asserting that it was carried out despite existing court stay orders. He claims that the land is private property and that no illegal encroachment occurred. He expressed his intention to seek legal recourse, stating that the demolition was done without prior notice and based on misinformation.
This incident highlights ongoing tensions between property developers and authorities in Hyderabad, particularly concerning constructions near water bodies and other environmentally sensitive areas.
