Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin today, discussing bilateral relations and sharing insights from his recent visit to Ukraine. The conversation touched on the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, with both leaders reiterating their commitment to strengthening the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership between India and Russia.
In a statement posted on social media platform X, PM Modi said, “Spoke with President Putin today. Discussed measures to further strengthen Special and Privileged Strategic Partnerships. Exchanged perspectives on the Russia-Ukraine conflict and my insights from the recent visit to Ukraine. Reiterated India’s firm commitment to support an early, abiding and peaceful resolution of the conflict.”
The Prime Minister’s Office also released a statement highlighting the discussion between the two leaders. The statement noted that PM Modi had recently participated in the 22nd India-Russia Bilateral Summit, where progress on several bilateral issues was reviewed. The two leaders also exchanged views on various regional and global matters of mutual interest.
During their conversation, PM Modi shared his insights from his recent discussions with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, underscoring the importance of dialogue, diplomacy, and sincere engagement among all stakeholders to achieve a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
In a joint statement issued by India and Ukraine following the Prime Minister’s visit, both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to upholding international law principles, including respect for territorial integrity and sovereignty. The statement further mentioned that they agreed on the desirability of closer bilateral dialogue in this regard.
